Dr Yosephine Gumulya

FaBA Future Academic Leader in Precision Fermentation

Yosephine Gumulya is a synthetic biologist specialising in protein engineering and directed evolution. Her research primarily focuses on ancestral protein reconstruction, which she uses to engineer novel enzymes for various industrial applications.

Yosephine earned her doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research. She has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Endeavour Research Fellowship, which allowed her to visit the lab of Nobel Laureate Professor Frances Arnold at the California Institute of Technology.

Prior to joining The University of Queensland, Yosephine held positions at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as a research fellow and at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) as senior postdoctoral research fellow.
