Dr Nigel Barrett brings deep knowledge of the food industry to his role as FaBA's Senior Associate, Commercialisation.
Nigel's current role represents a culmination of his diverse experiences, built across a career spanning almost four decades.
He began his career at Davis Gelatine as a process engineer, before progressing into operational and R&D roles that included the establishment of laboratories, pilot plants and factories in Australia and Brazil. Nigel then moved down the food chain, leading a program of effluent projects for Sydney Water. His career then moved to the FMCG part of the food industry where he was responsible for cheese product and process development, and that enabled him to identify and deliver value creation opportunities for the business.
Nigel is also a passionate mentor, having spent nine months working with a social enterprise and a research institute in Vietnam where he mentored senior R&D staff on how to move technology from the laboratory bench to the factory floor.
Nigel holds a BSc (Food technology), Masters of Business and Technology, and a PhD (Chemical Engineering) (UNSW).
