Hannes completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich where he focused his studies on protein chemistry.
Through his Master's thesis, conducted at The University of Queensland, Hannes was able to apply his skills in the engineering of an enzyme for the biotechnological production of isobutanol as a sustainable aviation fuel.
Hannes is now working on producing low-caloric sweeteners in Saccharomyces cerevisiae with Dr Birgitta Ebert at the Australian Institute of Nanotechnology and Bioengineering.
