Season’s Greetings from FaBA

It’s hard to believe that just 12 months ago, the Food and Beverage Accelerator was a freshly announced Federal Government initiative. Today, FaBA represents a multidisciplinary team of globally-recognised researchers who have commenced projects with a range of Australian-based brands to address their food and beverage manufacturing challenges.

And the journey is only just beginning.

Since the official FaBA Launch in May, I have been delighted by what has been achieved. We have signed multiple companies, both large and small, as Industry Participants. It was a true milestone in October when we announced our first research project, with All G Foods, to develop next-generation milk, cheese and yoghurt proteins produced using precision fermentation.

FaBA has worked closely with our university partners to ensure academics are recognised for their industry-facing research. In recent days we have launched the Global Trends Report that you can read more about here, and I look forward to the release of our first White Paper, on Food AI, in early 2024.

Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of several new Industry Participants and research projects in the New Year.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the expanding FaBA Team. My gratitude, in particular, to FaBA Associate Director (Operations) Dr Sue O’Brien, who has overseen the growth of FaBA from a handful of people to four established programs: Innovation Pathways, Innovative Ingredients, Premium Food and Beverage Products, and the FaBA Training Centre. Through these teams, we are well positioned to develop premium products and ingredients, as well as impressive next-generation leaders.

As we prepare for all that 2024 brings, I look forward to the FaBA portfolio of research projects continuing to develop and FaBA’s impact growing.

All the best for the Holiday Season. I hope you return refreshed for what I hope will be another ‘faba-ulous’ year.
